What is factory finished hardwood?
Factory finished, or pre-finished, hardwood is flooring that is sanded, stained, and finished before delivery to the build site. In the case of most renovation jobs, where the original flooring is being restore, finishing must happen on site. Renovators have to play it where it lays, so to speak. However, if flooring is being entirely replaced or built from scratch, pre-finished hardwood offers many advantages.
What are the benefits of factory finished hardwood versus site finished floors?
The biggest advantage to factory finished flooring is convenience. The customized planks come to the site completely cured and ready to install. As such, they can be laid down in small sections to accommodate furniture, and they are foot-friendly from the moment they’re installed.
When floors are finished on site, however, all furniture must be removed from the room to accommodate the craftsmen and their tools. Furthermore, the floor will be vulnerable to all foot traffic for a day or more. Even dust particles or small insects falling on the final finish can necessitate starting over again from scratch. That makes on site finishing a more nerve-wracking and disruptive process for the home’s inhabitants.
Is factory finished hardwood right for my home project?
Factory finished hardwood offers a wide range of customization options. You have your choice of solid hardwood or engineered, for starters. You can also choose from a wide range of wood species, and these can be customized further to create the exact flooring color, sheen, and texture that will suit your home.
Hardwood floors are long lasting and durable, and they are a classic of elegant home décor whether the style is early Americana or modern industrial. Unlike alternatives, wood becomes warmer and more inviting with wear, and when you choose factory finished hardwood, you can start breaking in your new floors as soon as they arrive.
Getting your hardwood floors professionally installed
Some people opt to install flooring themselves to save money; however, professional installation pays for itself when it comes to convenience, quality, and durability. That’s doubly true if floors are being refinished on site, where special precautions need to be taken to ensure a pristine, practically lint-free environment. Hiring professionals to install your floors also tends to reduce the time spent waiting on the final results as fewer mistakes will slip through to delay the project or, worse, require rewinding efforts to make repairs.
